Jayang decided early in life that music meant more to him than anything else, and that defined his very existence.

Jayang decided early in life that music meant more to him than anything else, and that defined his very existence.

Though trained in the rudiments of Hindustani music at eight years, it wasn’t until sixteen that he found his true guru in Gaayanasaraswati Kishori Amonkar, the last of the great divas of Indian classical music. She molded his musical and aesthetic sensibilities, broadened his artistic horizons, and inculcated a disciplined approach to improvisation and musical embellishment

Destiny brought him to Hong Kong in 1987, where he immersed himself in a career as an information technology professional. However, he could never let go of his first love and got involved with cultural events, as well as hosting a weekly magazine program on RTHK for hong Kong’s Indian community. Then followed a brief tryst with concert promotion where he was instrumental in bringing to Hong Kong the likes of Bollywood diva Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar. Hong Kong also introduced him to the fascinating world of Western classical music and jazz, where he first encountered guitar legend Eugene Pao and drummer Anthony Fernandes, with whom he was to collaborate later. Jayang also teaches Hindustani vocal music to a number of students in Hong Kong who are committed to imbibing his Guru’s legacy

Outside of music, Jayang is a successful entrepreneur and technology consultant. He sold his first start-up in early 2000 to a company controlled by tycoon Li Ka Shing. He holds an MBA from London Business School and speaks six languages.
