“Rasa” in Sanskrit means “flavour” or “essence”, and in South Asian traditions, it denotes the bliss that results from human emotions beautifully expressed through visual and performing arts. RASA was our first concert in an annual series that explores various emotions through a myriad of styles in music, dance, and visual arts performed by local artists. In keeping with SAA Academy’s values, stage design and presentation (conceptualised by our Creative Director Sabine Steffen) were important aspects of this concert. The first concert in this series featured performances by Master Hari Om and his disciples (Kuchipudi dance), Sri Shakti Academy led by Neesha Jhaveri (Kathak dance), teen prodigy Aharna Sutradhar (Hindustani vocal), and Dr. Praveena Thodge (Carnatic vocal). Ticket sales raised HK$42,750, which was utilised to acquire five ventilators donated to Ratna Nidhi Charitable Trust of Mumbai (India) towards COVID relief. The concert was sponsored by Mrs. Purviz Shroff and the Late Mr. Rusy Shroff.
