Raaga & Rhythm

Raising the bar yet again, we blended traditional Chinese sounds with strings of the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong and local jazz talents including (yet again!) the legendary Eugene Pao. Music Director Anthony Fernandes conducted 35 musicians and six singers as they regaled the audiences with melodies steeped in the ancient Raaga system punctuated with lively rhythms played by five percussionists. The highlight of the concert were performances by Rahul Vellal, an 11-year old child prodigy from Bangalore, and Ronkini Gupta, a well-known classical and Bollywood vocalist. The concert was presented by the Chellaram Foundation in aid of persons with special needs in the Hong Kong workplace and was presided by the Hon’ble Chief Secretary for Administration of the government of the Hong Kong SAR, Mr.Matthew Cheung. The Late Mr. Rusy Shroff and Mrs. Purviz Shroff were Gold sponsors for the concert.
